"This show is a rock show NOT. Jay and The Americans branch out into a new phase of their artistic expression through music. The first half of the show, without interruption, is a live performance of the new album. While Jay and The Americans, with their New Blood Orchestra, put out an amazing night of new style with stirring emotional musical expression, others in the crowd were annoyed and even bored by the new direction. Often reaching deep into the heart while still enlightening, the music is melancholy. The second half of the show plays well with a full orchestra and features a handful of Jay and The Americans' great works. While lacking the engaging, funky beat that makes out get up out of your seat and start dancing in the aisles, it brings new depth and appreciation to the mastery of Jay and The Americans' songwriting and performance skills. Satisfying none the less, but not long enough. There is much more that they could have adapted to an orchestra performance, but what we got to experience was amazing. And the Hollywood Bowl is the absolute best venue for a show like this."
